Tim McGraw and the Really BIG Weekend!

28 02 2010

Hi Gang, Carey here, now this was a BIG Weekend.  Van Andel was packed to the rafters and Tim McGraw had us all in the palm of his hand.  I had  a last minute opportunity to catch the show and join our WT CM listener winners and about 11.000 other fans for the hottest ticket of the year.  The Lost Trailers kicked off the evening although I missed out on their set while schmoozin with Lady A before the show ( I know… tough gig I got).   Charles, Dave and Hillary are completely stoked about their place in the world right now, on tour with Tim, the best selling, record setting album Need You Now on the charts since it came out early this year.   Hillary told me they are just running on energy generated by the reaction of the audience and the support they feel from fellow country music superstars.  They looked and sounded amazing.  And then Tim McGraw’s  entrance… he is just one sexy man, entertainer, movie and Country Rock Star!  He was classy enough to thank the crowd in Michigan for spending their hard earned dollars on coming to see him, he shared a couple of stories about selling his class ring for his first guitar and how he and Chesney and Tracey Byrd played the old hot dog stand and got in a little trouble.  His real power is in his songs, the ones we’ve been singing for over a decade the ones that thousands sang along with in downtown Grand Rapids.  That being said I am sorry that not everyone could be there to see the show.  But I am going to do my best to share a little bit, in baby steps… as I learn the technology better.  Check out a couple of not ready for prime time videos, but be kind, it is a work in progress.

Morning Show Fun & Greg MacMaster

26 02 2010

Wow what a wacky morning this was. Friday’s always are, but with the Olympic’s the weather and all the other good stuff going on. I hope if you were listening it was as much fun for you.

Some Highlights—–

Being a native Detroiter I still love the city and I hate all the jokes…but unfortuneatly the City deserves most of it. That is why  so far I’m thrilled with Mayor Dave Bing he appears to actually have the GUTS to do what’s right! Here’s the article I read on the air….

Our weekly Survivor chat included Yau-man Chan from Survivor Fuji, it was fun!!

And our “one more thing” segment was about a study of why we have “tip of the tongue” moments were we can’t remember “that word”

And on a closing note…Greg MacMaster signed off today as our Meteorologist after 15 years with us. He’s got other irons in the fire…we wish him well. He will always be a friend and welcome at WTCM! Thanks Greg!

Song Wars Champ Rolls On

25 02 2010

Our current Song Wars Champion, Mallary Hope (“Blossom In The Dust’) had a good night Thursday night, defeating our Challenger, Bekka Bramlett (“I Got News For You”).  That’s win #2 for the Champ and she will face a new Challenger Friday night on Song Wars

Song Wars 2/24

24 02 2010

Well, it took two nights, but we got a decision!  We had a tie Tuesday night between the Champion, Mallary Hope (“Blossom In The Dust”), and the Challenger, Fast Ryde (“Top Down”), so we brought both contestants back Wednesday night.  When the dust cleared, Mallary Hope came away with the victory.  She’ll face a new Challenger Thursday night at 8 on Song Wars.

Morning Show Stuff

24 02 2010

Had fun today with the news of the day including a story from England that said women are better then men at knowing useless stuff. SO I set up a battle of the sexes between Colleen and Joel…the results are here…..

Jerry Dobek from the Rogers Observatory stopped by with his weekly check up…on “what’s up”

Sheesh why has Tuesday been so busy???

23 02 2010

Hi everybody..still trying to make sure this blog becomes part of my daily routine! Had a fun show on Tuesday morning. Lots of good stuff. One story that I used was about a retirement home in Chicago where a group of ladies wanted to go to a biker bar. They did and had a GREAT time. Here’s the link to the story – http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local-beat/Nursing-Home-Residents-Form-a-Biker-Gang-84805857.html

Check it out it’s a FUN story.  Mark Romanack was along and discussed the debate about deer baiting. Sounds like the state is going to have to make some big decisions or something on the ballot. We’ll see if that happens.

Wednesday morning Colleen will announce the winner of the trip to Nashville this spring…tune in maybe you won!!  Friday’s Survivor segment we will have Yau-man Chan a survivor alum on the air at 8:10am to talk about Hero’s and villains so spread the word and tune us in!!

Song Wars (and random thoughts!)

22 02 2010

Made it through another weekend and what a beautiful weekend it was.  Had to make a quick trip downstate Saturday…beautiful sunshine all the way…starting to get a little spring fever.  Baseball talk adds to that…Johnny Damon now a Tiger.  I think that will be a good move.  Can’t wait to hear the first “Play Ball” this spring.

We have another new Champion on Song Wars.  Monday’s Challenger, Mallery Hope (Blossom In The Dust”) defeated the Champ, Tyler Dickerson (“Tell Your Sister I’m Single”).  Mallary Hope will now face a new Challenger.  Tune in to Song Wars weeknights at 8 on WTCM.

Hey, hey,hey it’s Monday!

22 02 2010

Hey Tiger fans, Johnny Damon is now a Tiger! I hear from many that think he’s to old, too much money. I know we loved Curtis Granderson but the Tigers needed to shake things up. Damon is a ballplayer and a winner and I think our locker room, full of good guys but guys that needed a kick in the pants. Damon can lead…don’t know if we’ll win the Series but write it down…we win the division, make the playoffs…something we couldn’t do last year and even in 06 we choked. Go Tigers…a one year move that I think will pay dividends!

Had fun this morning on the air thanks for all the GPS horror stories. It’s funny to how many folks have names for their GPS voice! Tuesday we have our outdoors guy visit and I plan to do some trivia….”tool trivia”!  Do you know your tools stuff????  Tune in and see if you can win!!

A fun weekend!

21 02 2010

After being on the air Saturday morning my wife and I along with some friends went to see comedian Mike Toomey, part of the TC Comedy Fest. His routine was called TV and Me..his act was based on his life watching TV. He was a lot of laughs and a trip down memory lane. I really had a good time.

Sunday we went to see a movie in the theatre for the first time in a long time. Went and saw the kids flick Percy Jackson and the Lightening thief. It was a fun movie. And in my last post I complained that the movie theatre popcorn prices were way over priced. I was happy to see today that they have a deal where you can buy a bucket, then you can bring it back and refill for $2.50. Hey I appreciate some type of break on prices.

Looks like a busy week ahead, I will fill you in as it proceeds! Tune us in each morning and give us a call, we love to hear from you!

Jack

Sorry I’ve been away..

19 02 2010

It’s been a couple of days since my last visit to the blog…sorry but I’ve actually been busy and the free time I had, I had to choose. Sleep or blogging and I’m sorry I’m old-fashioned. Sleep it was!!

Busy around the radio ranch…going on business lunches…I know rough duty. Plus some things I do on the personal side. But otherwise I have been having fun on the morning show. Some great guest and great phone calls! The “what olympic sport would you like to participate in if you could” was fun, lots of good stories and laughs. And still trying to picture Joel as  a speed skater!!!

This weekend I’m working but then looking forward to the TC Comedy Festival, I must congratulate the organizers…it is a GREAT thing for February. We interviewed Mike Toomey on Thursday and will be going to the show Saturday night. If you see me there please come over and say HI!. Also this weekend I am looking forward to going to a movie.  I love going but have not been in a loooong time. I have to say the prices at the concession stand are a bit much and popcorn and movies go together. So I guess I’ll splurge and go, but hey Carmike, can you bring those prices down a little?

Enjoy the Olympic’s should be a fun weekend for that too! Enjoy the sunshine and keep checking all our blog’s I promise to do better!

I chat with comedian Mike Toomey from the Traverse City Comedy Arts Festival.

A very interesting talk about taxes.
