Gwen Sebastian and my Spring break in FLA.

30 03 2010

Carey here, I had a great opportunity last weekend to attend a showcase with Gwen Sebastian at The Sheraton in Tampa.  You may have heard her song Hard Rain on The Back Burner in recent weeks.  Gwen records for Lofton Creek Records and dozens of radio/music folks gathered to get to know her better.  One of Country Radio’s guru’s, the good Dr. Keith Hill ( the title is honorary) introduced Gwen to the crowd.  I promise, I am working on my video skills… but Gwen and her band were great!

I had the chance to visit with some snowbird friends too while I was in FL.  Thanks to The Peps and my friend Cathy for takin me in for a few days.  Cathy and I visited The Bok Tower Gardens in the center of the state, the highest point in the state.  It is a 50 acre botanical garden with one of 8 carrilons in the country.  We have one too at the Uof M campus in Ann Arbor.  It was gorgeous!!!  Comin home to these temps and all the sunshine sure made it great to come home to Northern Mi.

The Band has a name

28 03 2010

Friday night we gathered at Ground Zero and had a party. The whole idea was to introduce the band. I’m guessing about 300 folks were there. It was nice to see, families, young couples all ages and that is WTCM’s listenership right there. So let’s get to the name…the band is now CROSSWIND! They played for about 2 hours and folks loved the fact that they played all new stuff…tunes right off the charts and they did a GREAT job. We look forward to having some fun with Crosswind in the summer months to come, stay tuned!

Trying to keep everybody happy..ain’t ez!

26 03 2010

Friday’s are always fun heading into the weekend. I always try to let folks know what’s going on in the world. If I find it interesting I think you will too. If I don’t know about something I’m guessing you don’t either. So with that Colleen and I were talking about “Chatroulette”…

Also some stories in the news that we passed along!

The Dogman visits the morning show!

25 03 2010

Wednesday evening Northern Michigan was watching the History channel’s Monster Quest show! It was focused on the Dogman of No. Michigan. Steve Cook and his song the Legend were the center piece. The startling footage know as the Gable film was also a focus. This morning we chatted with Steve about all things Dogman!

Song Wars & Vacation!

24 03 2010

Our new Song Wars Champ, Rodney Atkins (“Farmer’s Daughter’), defended his crown successfully for the first time Wednesday night.  He’ll be up against a brand new Challenger next time around.

And guess who’s going on vacation?  That would be me!  Thought I’d take some time off to get ready for another big summer here at WTCM.  Susan Melton and Barbara will be sitting in for me.  I’ll be back on Tuesday, 4/6.  Enjoy the week, I’ll see you when I get back!

I double dare you to read this!

24 03 2010

Fun day today and thanks for all the calls. We asked for those times you accepted a dare and things went terribly wrong…here you go!

We keep hearing about the Asian Carp moving up the Illinois river heading for the Great Lakes. This story is about how they are using bow’s and arrows to “fish” for these jumping carp. I did not link to the photo’s mentioned in this story because it seems as if they are on a questionable site and I did not want to direct you there. But here is our chat and a video link to the bow fishing!
