Big Kenny, Makin Movies in Northern Michigan

10 03 2010

A smiling Big Kenny Alphin of Big and Rich  arrives at the shoot for the upcoming movie The Frontier Boys  Wednesday in Charlevoix.  Our own Chris Kropp was on the scene with the WTCM Country Cruiser to watch the production.   I don’t remember ever seeing Kenny without a hat.  I hear dozens of northern Michiganders turned out to serve as extras during the films production shoot at the Community Reform Church .   Were you there, I’d love to hear from you tomorrow 9-2pm on WTCM!  And Thanks Chris for handing out WTCM T Shirts to the big screen bound crowd and snappin a pic.

Carey, out for now!

Tim McGraw and the Really BIG Weekend!

28 02 2010

Hi Gang, Carey here, now this was a BIG Weekend.  Van Andel was packed to the rafters and Tim McGraw had us all in the palm of his hand.  I had  a last minute opportunity to catch the show and join our WT CM listener winners and about 11.000 other fans for the hottest ticket of the year.  The Lost Trailers kicked off the evening although I missed out on their set while schmoozin with Lady A before the show ( I know… tough gig I got).   Charles, Dave and Hillary are completely stoked about their place in the world right now, on tour with Tim, the best selling, record setting album Need You Now on the charts since it came out early this year.   Hillary told me they are just running on energy generated by the reaction of the audience and the support they feel from fellow country music superstars.  They looked and sounded amazing.  And then Tim McGraw’s  entrance… he is just one sexy man, entertainer, movie and Country Rock Star!  He was classy enough to thank the crowd in Michigan for spending their hard earned dollars on coming to see him, he shared a couple of stories about selling his class ring for his first guitar and how he and Chesney and Tracey Byrd played the old hot dog stand and got in a little trouble.  His real power is in his songs, the ones we’ve been singing for over a decade the ones that thousands sang along with in downtown Grand Rapids.  That being said I am sorry that not everyone could be there to see the show.  But I am going to do my best to share a little bit, in baby steps… as I learn the technology better.  Check out a couple of not ready for prime time videos, but be kind, it is a work in progress.

Super Bowl Monday, Carrie and Me

8 02 2010

Hello from the home front, Carey here, took the day off today to catch up on computer learning and stuff.  I love sittin here in my jammies and still be able to communicate with ya.  Just looking back on Super Bowl Sunday, I enjoyed the company of lots of friends out at the farm, Thanks to my host/friends Keith and Alisa.  Too much fabulous food, just the right amount of friends, dogs and fun.  I had a connection with both teams.  Back in the early eighties, my then morning show partner Steve Cooper and I were working at WFBQ in Indianapolis, he and I were chosen to do play by play and color for the then farm club of the Baltimore Colts as they ventured into Indianpolis.  For the first season Coop and I had a ball, he did the play by play and I got to call the color comments on the action on the field.  So I had a spot in my heart for them, but…I, like so many others that have a more emotional way of choosing sides, like the underdog and especially when it was the hard hit city of New Orleans.  I was very happy to see that they won.  What a great game, even by the standards of this not very rabid sports fan.  I enjoyed watching the Who at halftime, I can’t tell you how many of their “farewell” tours I saw over the years.  I thought they did a great job for being old farts!   As Pete Townsend was doing his signature move, the rotator cuff guitar strum, all I could think was geez, I bet that’ll hurt in the morning.  All in all a great game and event.  Carrie was sounding awesome on the National Anthem … wanna see it   just click here .  See ya on the radio tomorrow

Snowman Cam

1 02 2010

Carey here, now that Jack is back from Tiger Fantasy camp, we are all back in our places this week.  Gotta tell ya Jack looks great in his Tiger uniform, of course he had to wear it (OK just the shirt) today.   I know I have mentioned The Snowman Cam to you over the years,  I sometimes leave it up on my screen and watch as the streaming video captures, deer, squirrels, birds and an occasional human visitor to its lens.  It is just a neat little site that you may want to send to your friends (especially the ones who are in warmer climates)  I wonder if a ground hog will show up tomorrow and see its shadow?!*  Happy February everyone,

Carey

Paisley is amazing…

25 01 2010

I knew Brad Paisley was an amazing guitar guy, clever, funny and a hugely talented performer, but he has total control of his Mac too.  His animation was the back drop for Saturday nights show at Van Andel, he had a great little comic book story rolling on the screens behind the stage, but I was so busy trying to get photos and watch him I missed much of the storyline, but you can see some of it here.

Justin Moore  is having the time of his life on the tour with Miranda and Brad, this was the first time I have seen him live, he has a great band and huge energy on stage, you can feel the fun he is having playing the biggest crowds of his life.  Just a heads up, we will have Justin in our area this summer, I just can’t tell you when and where yet, but you don’t want to miss him when he gets here.  He has a special place in his heart for Michigan too, WTCM and other country stations in our state have been very supportive of his music.

Miranda was in charge, I love her attitude.  She has an air of being a regular gal, she got out on that stage and shook what her momma gave her, in her Texas way.  It was a great show, and it’s fun to share with you on this new web site, I am bloggin… see ya on the radio!
