Learning to Downhill Ski

8 03 2010

Scott Stillings, long-time ski and snowboard expert,  and WTCM ski and snowboard guru, has “guaranteed” me that I will become a skiier after my lesson at the Nub’s Nob Ski School on Thursday.  I’ll just get this out of the way right now:  I am not a skiier.  Not at all.  But I’m putting my faith  in Scott and his fine program and will give it all I got.   He says I can do it.  So I will.  Yes, it’s late in the season, but they are still skiing daily at Nub’s.   It looks fantastic, and I understand that they have some of the finest teachers around…not to mention newest-tech rentals and superb conditions.  It’s off I go.

Jack and I will talk to Scott Wednesday morning around 8:10.  And if I live to tell the tale, you’ll hear more about it Friday.  :)

“The Shack” Update

8 03 2010

If you recall, we spoke with Tim Anderson, from the Cadillac Lions Club last week, during the WTCM morning show.  The club holds a fundraiser called “Sink the Shack”  (you buy guesses as to the exact date and time that the shack, which has been sitting out on the frozen Lake Cadillac all winter,  will fall thru the ice).  Typically, it sinks around the end of March, but Tim contacted me yesterday to say that because of our gorgeous warm and sunny weather, things are moving along pretty quickly.  You can watch the live Shack-Cam  at

You just never know….

8 03 2010

what you’ll come across on any given day.  I was virtually in the middle of nowhere over the week end….stopped at a dead-end road beach on Lake Michigan….and lo and behold…a guy is riding a Clydesdale around on the beach!!!  What???  It was so cool, I thought I’d share a photo.  :)

Who Knew That School Was So Cool????

3 03 2010

Here’s a look at Sander Scott, principal of Westwoods Elementary School in Traverse City, and some of his staff, as they celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Tuesday. And you thought school was boring.

Yet Another Nashville Update

1 03 2010

Yes!  We are having such a great response to the Nashville trip!  There still are a few seats left, so if you’d like one or two, the time to request your brochure is right this minute.  Call 231-947-7675  or send me an email:  colleenwares@wtcmi.com

I’ve received a number of questions on a couple of topics: 1. on the day that we leave for Nashville (April 15), will there be a place to leave our cars while we are gone?  The answer is yes.   We will be getting specifics on that, and will pass them along to you as the date gets closer.  And 2. (mainly the) Ladies would like to know what to wear at the various events and shows and tours.  My answer to that is I don’t know.  But it does happen to be a burning question for me too.  It will be Spring and we will be in a beautiful, temperate area of Tennessee…temps around 65 for an average, that time of year.   As far as formality of what to wear….again, I don’t know, but I will find out, as I know this pressing issue is of the utmost importance.

Thanks to those of you who are taking the trip with me…I am positive that we’ll have the best time!

Happy Wednesday!

24 02 2010

And speaking of Mike Toomey, he will be our guest tomorrow morning, Thursday, 8:40am on the WTCM morning show. Bring on the laughs!!
And, we’ll see you at the Comedy Festival. (Festival organizers have asked me to remind you all that tickets are available for alot of shows that were previously listed as “sold out”…that’s because more shows have now been added to the schedule). see: www.comedyartsfest.org or call 231-947-3446 between noon and 8pm daily.

Whew…what a week end!

15 02 2010

Hi Everyone..

what a great week end…I spent some time at Winterfest in Empire, the Winter Wonderfest in TC and then saw  Jay Buchanan in concert Saturday night at the Traverse City Opera House.

Let me just say a couple of things:  one:   if you ever have a chance to see a concert or a play or whatever interests you, at the Traverse City Opera House, do it.  It is acoustically terrific, well-managed and beautifully historic.  I’ve had a lovely time, EVERY time there…yes, even at the Umphrey’s McGee show, lol.

The second thing is this:  there is no such thing as “nothing to do”.  Yes, even in the middle of February.  There are concerts, and comedy festivals, and ski races and world class food opportunities….all right in our own beautiful backyard.  I’ll keep you posted via the blog and the wtcmi.com week end event calendar, and if you are hosting or organizing an event, or just know of something happening that you’d like to pass along, please do so, to colleenwares@wtcmi.com.

Thanks for listening to WTCM!

Colleen

ps: here’s a pic of Jay Buchanan at the Opera House Saturday night.  (he does a song called “Three Times Coleen”…you know how much I love THAT!!  :)
